How Foundations Helps You Get Unstuck
A lot of color education gives you formulas, or tells you what to use.
The problem is, the moment you're in front of a head of hair with different variables than the last one, you're guessing again because you weren't actually taught how to think through it.
Foundations teaches the principles behind color: what color is, how to decipher what's in your tubes, and how that color behaves when it mixes with the remaining pigment already coming from the hair.
Foundations helps you begin working from understanding instead of relying only on memory, pattern recognition, or what someone told you to use. You’ll build the color language, mapping and tonal groundwork the Chemistry and Formulating classes build upon.
Formulas can be borrowed. Understanding has to be built. We build that here.
Two Class Days. One Main Goal: Color Control
Here's what each day covers.
Day 1, Building Your Color Map
- What color really is, how you see it, and what you are actually mixing when you formulate
- How to decipher your color line
- How to fully chart your tones in 3D
- Where natural hair lives in 3D
- How to identify the background ratio in each tube
- Finish Day 1 by beginning your Color Map with the line you use
Day 2, Using Your Color Map
- Science based color mixing theory, step by step
- Mix color with background for more consistent results
- Work in ratios, levels, and parts on your wheel before ever touching the hair
- Learn the CWC Directional Color Mapping System to create and predict more consistent results
- Troubleshoot real formulations and learn how to make stronger tonal choices
This class gives you the language, mapping system and visual tools to make clearer tonal choices and build the groundwork for the Chemistry and Formulating classes that follow.
Built For How People Learn
Learning doesn't stop at hearing the information. It needs a path, a place to practice, and a way to come back to the learning so it starts to stick.
Is Foundations The Right Class For You?
Foundations fits stylists who have some familiarity with natural levels, remaining pigment, tone families, basic wheel relationships, and the 5 basic ways color can move through the wheel.
You do not need every piece perfected or automatic before you begin. If these ideas are familiar and you’re ready to complete Day 1 before the live class, participate, and continue with the guided practice, you can make Foundations work.
You do not need to feel advanced to be here. You do need to be ready to work through the learning and practice seeing color in a more connected, predictable way.
What Stylists Are Saying...
This is the most comprehensive and thoughtfully designed color program I've ever taken, with an incredible level of support even after completion.
If you commit to the process and do the work, you'll gain the confidence to create virtually any result on the color wheel for your guests.
After more than 30 years behind the chair, I can confidently say this is the most complete color education I've experienced.

A Few Questions You May Have
Do I need to complete Day 1 before the live class?
Yes. Day 1 gives you the color map and prior learning Day 2 builds upon, so it needs to be completed before the live Zoom class.
What does the 7 day replay include?
The replay includes both Day 1 and Day 2, giving you time to revisit the learning in smaller sections after the live class.
How long will I have access to the CWC Community?
Community access is ongoing, so you can continue asking questions, sharing your activity work, and learning alongside other CWC students.
Will I need supplies?
Yes. You’ll find the Day 1 supply list inside Day 1 and a separate Day 2 supply list inside the course, so you’ll know what to have ready for each part.
